Post # 4a - Invitation to the Annual Robert Bellah Lecture on Religion and Public Life

1 min read

Dear family, friends and colleagues,  I want to interrupt my Artificial Intelligence Posts with some good news.

As many of you know I have been working on creating an annual lectureship at the Graduate Theological Union to honor Robert Bellah.  Also, some of you were either present in person or on-line for the inaugural lecture.  Biship Marianne Budde, the Bishop of Washington DC was our first lecturer last year.  This year’s lecturer will be just as important, Eddie Glaude, the Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University and a commentator on MSNBC, MSNews. Glaude’s new book makes use of Bellah’s Broken Covenant book, which Bellah wrote to commemorate the US’s Bicentennial.  It will be a timely lecture.  I hope you can attend in person or on-line, October 8, 2026.  Use the link to register. It is a free event.

Also, here is a Guardian article that quotes extensively from Glaude.

I look forward to hearing your comments.

My next Post on “Posthumanism” is written in the context of the current debate about “slowing down” AI for better “alignment”  with human values.  What does this mean?
